International Women’s Day 2025 Partners Against Trafficking Humans

Saturday, March 8th is International Women’s Day. PATH is running a fundraising campaign through the month of March to raise awareness about sex trafficking crimes against women. Women and girls continue to be disproportionately affected by sex trafficking. 75% of victims of sex trafficking are women and girls. PATH is using the month of March to raise awareness of this statistic. Also, to show the women and girls in our lives that we care about their safety and wellbeing.

Sex trafficking is when an individual makes a profit by selling another human being in the commercial sex industry by means of force, fraud, or coercion. Sex trafficking makes more money each year than the entire music industry but at an unimaginable human cost. Women and girls are targeted by predators online and in person. While women and girls make up the majority of sex trafficking victims, men and boys are also victims.

Some red flags and warning signs that a person may be a victim of trafficking are: tattoos/branding, avoids eye contact, not in control of personal identification, cannot speak for themselves, is not free to come and go as they please, moves frequently, their money is kept by someone else, few or no personal possessions, signs of abuse, or they may be paying off a debt to someone else. If someone you know is showing these signs or red flags, they may be a victim of sex trafficking. You can contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or text help to 233733.
